Tips on sinking additive
« on: 10/27/12 13:48 UTC »
Just got my order of CCM high density sinking additive and was wondering if you guys have any tips for using it. I am wanting to use it in my mad dad's body then molding it to the claws made with plastic without additive. will the additive affect this process?                                                                                                                                                                         Bob

I don't see why it would be a problem. I don't use it personally but the plastic is still the same in the claws and the weighted portions of the bait. Maybe heat the heavy stuff a couple degrees higher and keep some slight pressure on the injector for a few seconds at the end of the shot.

Add two level tablespoons to 4 oz (1/2 cup) uncooked plastic. Stir well and heat as normal. The plastic will turn white and not clear so getting your color formula right is tricky.

It should melt with the regular tips nicely. Shoot a bit hotter as Ctom said.

I just made some weighted trick worms and they sink nicely in the fish tang with a 3/0 EWG. Next I will try floating plastic in the tail to float it up a bit. I also made some 5" Watzits and 4" craws to try weightless.

This stuff is new to all of us so keep us posted on your results.

Do you have to add the sinking addative before you heat the plastic, or can you add it after heating just like the colors?

I've been following Jason's advice and mixing it in before heating and it seems to work fine. Takes awhile to stir completely in....and as mentioned you need to add more color to offset the grey color.

I've been using the 2 tablespoons per 4 oz as suggested in previous posts.

In addition to having a great sinking bait...they are REALLY durable!!! I have caught 12+ bass so far on one Freedom Fry!

I shot some Baby Bass  X2 senkos...4oz soft, 4 drops X2, 1 1/2 TBS of additive.  I thougtht the color was a little light so I added 4 drops of CC Green and got the color I wanted.  I haven't fished them yet, but did play with them a little in the sink filled with water.  ROF looked pretty darn good.  Probably won't be fishing until Monday.
Until next time.
