Natural nightcrawler?
« on: 10/29/12 16:53 UTC »
I need a color recipe for a natural looking nightcrawler, something along the Berkely coloration. My dad fishes walleyes and has been using nightcrawler color trout worms on Eerie Dearie rigs rather than actual nightcrawlers due to the high theft rate by bluegill and small bass. I'm thinking the 3 to 4" carrot stick would make a good substitute.

I bet skinny carrot 3 " would be a good choice...

Yeah, I have the CCM nightcrawler color, but it's a little too "purplish" and pale (though the hi-lites look nice). I need something a little more reddish brown flesh color.

I would try 1 drop X2 pumpkin seed to 4 oz of plastic. I'll add a dash of black flake and use it as my "natural" worm color.

I use the same as Jason...after seeing his (or CCM_Jr's) baits!

And maybe add a touch of purple high- lite powder for an oversheen.  But; be it far from me to second guess Jason or Andrew.  You could also blend the CCM earthworm and X2 pumpkin seed to tone down the purple.

You can try Jason and CCM Jr's recipe with about a half smidgen of red hi lite and you might achieve what you are looking for... I like mine a slight reddish brown as well.  That pumpkin seed X2 is AWESOME!  I use it for the first time a couple months ago and really love it!
