I charge $4.00 for a 12 pack of the 1.75" small fry.  I make them with two colors, eyes and they are hand dipped in clear to seal the eyes.  Making them this way is a little more labor intensive and they look nice so people buy them up.

thanks for the info. It makes sense by doing  them how you described & also gives me a starting point to think for a price on them

Bill, I do the same thing.  All of our stuff is $4/bag, but the quantity is different.

floridagrimp, yes retail.  I kind of thought 12 for $4 was too pricey, but I found other people selling them for around the same price.

it's fair...you have a lot of work in your baits. .30+ per bait is fair for a bait w/some extras i it (eyes, dipping, maybe two color). I personally just shoot them, try and do fish catchin' colors.

I do the plastic primarily as a hobby but will sell a few. The Small Fry 1.75 done in two colors, with eyes, I sell for $5.99 for a 10 pack. I don't get any complaints and many of these customers have come back several times thru the summer to get more.

I find that here in Minnesota the anglers are always seasrching for something different. The 1.75 Small Fry is similar to several commercially offered baits that perform well, but as a "custom" bait it offers an entirely different feel to the plastic [I use Caney's pthalate-free crystal clear in the soft formula exclusively], the colors are a world apart from their commercial cousins and the eyes top off all the differences. At 60 cents apiece the customers realize that they are getting way more than what they can find in a package store. Everything has a cost when I make a bait and I have long since given up on giving things away, so those costs get passed on.

Some of the walleye sized baits I have done have sold for as much as 80 cents apiece.

I have only shot regular plastic once so I really can't say whether one is easier than the other. All I make is small baits and I like them to be super active. I generally add softener to the soft formula too.

My usual batch is 4 ounces of plastic. To that I add 15 drops of softener and 20 drops of stabilizer. Most of what I shoot is transparent and the stabilizer allows several re-heats and still keeps the color uniform. This is my basic plastic BEFORE I add colorant or any hi lites, glitter. This makes a plastic that affords a ton of action in small baits, yet is still tough enough for the rigors of crappie and sunfish fishing.

Most of my Small Fry 1.75 baits are done in two colors, some with eyes and others without. The soft plastic, to me anyways, welds up real nice using this recipe for the basic plastic when the second color is shot at between 345 and 360 degrees and light pressure held for 10 seconds. I don't see any color-layer seperation and I do not top coat two color baits unless eyes are attached and then I only do the eye dip.
