Anyone make their own scent??

looking to make to some shrimp scents...anyone done it b/4, any kind!!??   

I use to cut up some of my favorite plastic baits, put them in a blender w/some cod liver oil and garlic...then i would drink it and jump off the end of the pier into the gulf       just kiddin'...would like to hear from anyone who has some expertise in this area!!

I make scent. Still a work in progress but the stuff I made so far works.

 I tried mixing cod liver oil and vaseline once. Thinking I could smear a little on and it would last for hours. I was right. It stayed on the bait great. Unfortunately fish HATED it. They would hit the bait and spit it out IMMEDIATELY. I think my concoction proved that fish do indeed have a gag reflex. I've been using Kick'n Bass for a couple years now and couldn't be happier with it. You can still smell it on your bait for hours,even days after you apply it. It's also oil based so you can cook it into your baits.

you can mix petroleum jelly as a base, mineral oil also...guess worm oil too.  Guess Jason isn't talking on this one, but Upper Hand doesn't make shrimp scent.

Know a guy that mixed shrimp w/petro jelly in a blender, said he put it liberally on an 8 oz egg sinker and dropped it offshore and THE FISH POLISHED IT TO WHERE IT WAS SHINEY!!!

and jim, keep those "scents" inside the truck cab...Obama admin will be fining u b/4 too long for carbon polution!!! and look what it did to crew of Star Trek   (even you guys that are wrapped a little tight will belly laugh at this!!!)

This is what I did earleir this year and have been really happy with it I took a bottle of vegatable oil and put 6 minced cloves of garlic in it and let it sit for 3 days. I bought the generic walgreens brand petroleum jelly and added about 1\4 of a bottle of garlic infused vegetable oil then I also added about 1oz of lurecraft crawdad scent and 1 cup of salt. The salt is important because it absorbs the oils and keeps the whole thing a gel. Without the salt the contents do not mix well. I am happy with it

I would if I had knowledge that was truly helpful.  What I can best share is what not to do and offer a warning. 

Be really careful what you add as it may not react well with the plastic.  This may take hours, or months to manifest.  I know mineral oil will make baits become hard, other organics like Soybean may not be compatible and cause oily rancid baits (phasing - migration of oils from the bait over time).   

My best advice is to test it and keep samples for several months before selling it in your baits.  I would also lean towards adding it to the bags vs. cooking it in the plastic.  This will allow what is compatible to be absorbed, vs what isn't causing a break down or migration out of the bait.

I wish I had a rock solid answer I could offer up, but this is what I know.  Hopefully there is a little something there that may help.

Trick is to make it easy applicable and make it last as long as possible and be strong enough to do the job. Making shrimp mix in mineral oil or petro jelly is easy...for a one day trip.  Getting into a gel or spray that is consistent, relaiable is the trick

Wouldn't it be easier to just buy the proper scent that CCM sells? Works great and it not that expensive.

One of these days, in all my free time, I want to dehydrate some craws and grind them into a powder.  From that point I would like to experiment with adding it to plastic, worm oil, inside, outside, etc. just to see if it works.

monte, read my previous post...they (upperhand) don't make saltwater scents. i.e. shrimp, inshore baitfish etc
