Worm Oil
« on: 02/02/13 13:48 UTC »
Happy Saturday to all! This morning I was bagging up some lures I had clear dipped last night. I was putting worm oil in all of the bags. I got to thinking if it was really necessary to put worm oil in every single bag of lures. I have been because it helps keep them from sticking to one another. My question is, when bagging lures, do you guys always put in a few drops of worm oil?  I guess it would depend on what lures you are bagging. Just curious. Thanks!

Chuck

I always oil mine.  Like you said, to keep them from sticking to the bag.  Clean out an old paint can and when you have lures ready to bag, toss them in the can and put a few drops of oil on them and mix them around.  Found its easier than trying to squish them around in the bag to coat them.  Next time, there is usually enough residual oil in the can for another batch.  This seems to make the oil last longer and keeps from getting too much in a bag.

I used to use oil in all mine, but now I've replaced the oil with a few drops of scent. I think adding the scent helps both with bagging and catching more fish.

I meant scent .  My scent I make is oil based, so I use it for oiling and packaging plastics instead of the straight worm oil.

Fish oil and crushed garlic.  Mix bout 50/50 fish oil and unscented worm oil and toss in the crushed garlic.  Shake well, and everyday for a week or two.  Then siphon or drain the oil that's on top.  The water and solid garlic sink to the bottom.  Has worked well for me.  Joey

Use garlic oil in place of crushed garlic for a simpler and quicker way.

I find that not only does oiling the baits make them easier to get in a bag it also gives them a protective coating that stops them sucking up water and becoming cloudy, which I used to get with a lot of the more opaque baits and clear colours I'd make.
