So, Mr. Lamberson.....
« on: 03/04/13 21:43 UTC »
.....have you got your shovel polished up nice? It sounds as though the heavy band of snow is going to to swing in your direction tonight. I sprayed my dry graphite lube on the snow chute on the blower...augers too. We're due for 9" they say....you're more than welcome to take the 13 or so they say you might find in your driveway in the morning.  :D

I'm really looking forward to seeing just how high a wall of snow the City will plow across the bottom of my driveway! I  always worry that if I hit it too hard with the bumper of my 4wd the airbags will go off!  :o

That drive is a steep uphill puppy for sure. Now mine is the opposite. I have to back down ours so I can get a good run UP it. One this street I live on there is always a considerable berm at the curb. Lets see...if we have ten inches here, that wall will be six feet from front to back at the ground and around three feet high. I think I'll be busy tomorrow.

Here in the southern UP of Michigan,it looks like its going to miss us by 4-5 county's. I hope so I no more room to push the snow. About 5 yrs. ago I made a deal with my neighbor, he would cut our grass (I have a big lawn)  I would plow his snow(he has a big driveway),well this summer I want my grass cut at least twice a week!!! lol

Right now the forecast is only light snow for me.  But last week's 2-4" was 17" so I don't have a whole lot of faith in the weatherman.

I think I have about 9" on the ground and its still snowing. The snow is pretty fine so hopefully it'll blow easy. Got a breeze right now too instead of a blow like yesterday morning. That helps too. Traffic on the otherwise busy and high velocity street is at about 15mph.

We ended up with 11.8" according the measuring station down by the river. I called the kid that does my lawn for me and had him come over with his 2 stage! There was no way I was going to tackle nearly 12" of wet snow...with it over knee deep at the end of the drive thanks to the plow....with my single stage snow blower! It was well worth the $20 !

I had 36 turkeys in the back yard this am waiting for me to throw them cracked corn. These late snows can really stress the birds. They move back a bit when I come out to feed them...but I barely get back in the door before the all come running down the hill! Funny thing to watch.

Getting white again this morning Andy?

Sick weather right now. Rain most all day yesterday. We were starting to see my favoite late-winter color....brown....and then got up this morning to white again. One minute this stuff is coming from the north and the next minute its coming at us from the south. Right now I think the sun is going to pop out but the weather map for areas below us show on ugly mix of rain and snow.

We went into the winter fairly dry and relatively warm for a winter, but then we got several rainy spells and the ground sucked up the water and froze into what's referred to as concrete frost. Nothing can get past that stuff. Yesterday's rain has peoples' basements getting wet. I have some water coming in thru a crack in the garage floor and that has never happened. The creek and river behind our house are both running heavier today than they have since last year at this time and the lake 12 miles north where all this water goes is seeing the ice sheet [over 20" this year] floating on the rising water and no access for ice
anglers.

Well, the sun is out. Time to go scrape this white off. 33 degrees. I'm am officially fed up with winter.

Still rain here...forecasted for 6 to 8" of snow tonight. I had to come home early on Friday and dig a trench in the snow to drain all the water that is running down the hill and ponding just before the house (yikes!). I now have a pretty good creek flowing down to the front street, most of it over about 4" of solid ice.

I don't see an real indications of "spring" in the 10 day forecast. I'm getting a REALLY bad case of the "Shack Nasties" !

The creek and river got to rocking pretty good yesterday by afternoon. Nice to hear the water again.

Snowing again...about 5-6" so far. The weather maps looks as though it might be on the way out of the area within an hour or so. Winona looks as though you may have gotten a good shot of white again....maybe a bit more than we got. Another round at the end of this next week? Getting old for sure.
