How about a chat room?
« on: 03/06/13 12:24 UTC »
I would personally like to see a chat room where our members can chat when we are online at the same time. How about it? Anybody else feel this way too?

Me too. it would be kind of cool to schedule a topic for discussion also.

I own and run a fishing forum here in Australia and we have often had requests for a "chat room" and they are great but the big problem we saw with having one was the lose of valuable info that gets shared in the chatroom.

People will use the chatroom to ask questions and discuss topics but only those in chat at the time get to read the info and the info gets lost, yes they are greta for general socail interaction but can be a drain on valueable posts and info on a forum. They can also be very hard to moderate and can in some case cause arguments as there isnt the time for people that are having disagrements to think about their posts in chat before they post.

On here twice a day but usually what i want to say has already been said.

I agree a chat room would be great but you all would have to adjust to Aussie time so we wouldnt miss out  ;)

This already is a chat room. I suppose tea and crumpets are on the list too?

Chat rooms are great but they do make a lot of work for admin and moderators.

Which one  ?

AnglingVictoria.com ( http://anglingvictoria.com/forum/index.php ) it's Victorian based as the name suggest, so we dont get many post about the stuff you'd be targeting like barra etc,but could always use some hint hint hint ;)

A large percentage of the forum is unviewable by non-members, so its pays to join up and also if you do your first 3 posts have to be approved due to the site getting targeted by spammers selling viagra etc.

Anyone know how to use IRC? It would be really easy with it.

Mind you most IRC servers are wretched hives of scum and villainy. But if you find the right one it could be fine.
