Work Space

What does your work space look like?  Here's my before picture.  I worked on a counter top cut out where the sink goes.  That was on top of a garbage can!

Here's the after picture.  Since it was Easter weekend and the wind was blowing like crazy this weekend, I built a 60" x 30" workbench.

It's a big round table that I found in the garage. Works perfect and provides plenty of room.

I like your setup too. Great job on that workbench!

I am too embarrassed to show mine its a cluttered mess, I do plan once I get caught up remodeling it by adding cabinets and better exhaust fan/ductwork.

My workshop is a mess, once I get caught up I will post a picture. I didn't see anyone else's benches with plexiglass on top. On my benches I covered them with plexiglass, it makes clean-up a snap. I was lucky to get enough to cover one bench from my regular job before it went in a dumpster, my other bench I went to the store for, but it is well worth it. It makes clean up so much easier.

Do you think the Plexiglas works better or the same as Formica?

Thanks,

Jason

I'm going to have to look into getting some plexiglas or some formica.  Sounds like a great idea.

I work on plexiglass. Works well however if you keep a heated pyrex on it (roughly 360 degrees) the glass kind of forms a small mound with little cracks. However, once it cools the mound goes away and the small cracks seem to basically go away as well. Works for me but if I could do it over I would use wood.

We had a 12" tile from somewhere and I use it to set my cup on.  I also like to push my tips off on it because it's easy to clean.

I too had the issue of the plexi warping a little on one of my benches when the hot cup was on it. I resolved this by keeping a couple of plywood scraps around that were just big enough to act like a coaster for the hot cup. On my other bench the plexi is pretty thick so I never had an issue on that bench. Haven't tried formica. Thought about it, but the free plexiglass came along first so that was the route I took.

I have been using formica for about two months now and have not had any trouble at all so far, very easy to clean and the hot pyrex doesn't seem to bother it at all.
