Getting air bubbles in the 4 inch chub grub
« on: 03/28/13 21:36 UTC »
This is my first post and am very new to pouring baits but thougt i would save another newbie a sligt headache.  So i recieved my new molds and whole set up and i was pumped to say the least.  I watched all of the videos on youtube and was ready to pour.  My first pours for the 4" g tube went flawless, i was walking tall.  Then i decided to shoot some smoke color skirted grubs.  I noticed that on every single bait i shot had a huge air bubble at the head just below the skirt.  After pouring and remelting 30 or so times needless to say i was frustrated.  So i watched the ccm video again a few times and still had them!!!  Finally as i was laying in bed it dawned on me about the skirt spline has a cavity for the tube insert to thread into.  I remember when i pilled my baits from the mold that ther wasn't nearly enough flashing from the cavity to have been filled up.  What was happening is there was still air inside the spline shaft that was pulling back into the head of the baits.  So i went to the hardware store and found an allen head set screw that screws down flush with the spline mold and block off the air.  I poured a dozen new skirted grubs tonight without any hitches.  hopefully this helps with anyone having the same problem.  I must say that these baits ( 4" skirted chub grub, 4" inch g tube, and the 4" mad dad craw all look amazing!    And am very happy with these products!

Nice. job figuring that out. I also use an allen screw when doing solid tubes.
