First Bad Burn,,,,Hopefully the last!

Well I did it! Was injecting some croakers when I took off my gloves to clean off my injector. Don't ask why, brain fade?? I dropped the tip of my injector in to the Pyrex cup full off hot plastic  which splashed and it covered my left pinkie finger. 2ND degree burns with the whole finger blistered. STUPID STUPID!!

Anyways always be safe!! I learned my lesson!!

A quick coating of Yellow Mustard can help minimize the burning. Have to be fast though.

I actually keep a seperate bottle in my fridge in my shop. It has saved me many of times and I have no scars or marks.

Better to be safe though. I still see lots of guys without eye protection and that is going to be a chilling report if it ever happens. Hopefully never!!!!!

There was once that I came close in that I didn't have a glove on as I was purging an injector. That thing got hot in a hurry and I slid a glove on in about a half second. Most often I wear my gloves even when de-molding. It helps to keep in practice.

What does mustard do for a burn 

Nothing, only cause it's cold it stops the burning. Never use butter, this actually cooks you more. Just run cold water over the burn for 20 to 30 minutes, and see your doctor. Hopefully he'll write you a prescription for Silverdine; it's a cream developed for burn victims. A little goes a long ways. I still have a tube when my daughter was burned, that was maybe 10 -11 years ago, it still works. Again, never put anything on a burn other than water....DISCLAIMER..I'M NOT A DOCTOR! but I was a field medic in the Army  I believe that cream was actually invented at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio the same year I was receiving my training.

Just cooling the burn won't stop it from scarring and all that in my experience however the mustard does. I believe it has something to do with the vinegar. Just like if you get sunburned.

The real deal is Silvadene. I am sure it is a prescription cream though. It is what they use in the ER and at hospitals.

I am not a doctor or nurse either but do work in a hospital. I used to be a Clinical Laboratory Scientist but now am the Information Technology person.

So basically that means please disgregard all the info above regarding burn care!!!!!

Yes it's a script...Not sure it's a controlled drug though, just expensive! Maybe if you tell your Doc what your hobby is, he write it anyway..Worst he can say is "NO"
Silver Sulfaiazine Cream 1% is the tube I have..Ghost are they putting any of it in over-the-counter products now in small amounts?
