and we have rain....
« on: 07/09/13 09:36 UTC »
We've been hotter than heck of late and with dewpoints running into the upper 60's into the mid-70's. Sure makes breathing with these tired old lungs a chore. Then yesterday they issued an air pollution alert/warning for this region. The weather service said we could maybe expect some rain today and a half hour ago it cut loose with those expectations.

Right now I am thinking we are seeing a rate of about 2"/hour of rainfall. Straight down, running over the curbs. The wind, more of a hint of breeze, has just begun. Not really a storm even with an occasional shot of lightning and thunder, but man the rain. I'd like to know why we can't get rain that starts at 10 PM and is just a nice steady inech every three hours that lasts until 4 in the morning?

Upper 80's into the 90's and high humidity are forcast again until late today when the severe stuff is supposed to show its ugly head as a cold front gets ushered in. All this wet will certainly have the area tropical until the cold front arrives.

Minnesota....land of 10,000 weather conditions.

Don't feel alone. We got hammered again last night. Flooding everywhere. We've only had a few dry days in three weeks. Since all our water flows south and they're getting rain too. This can't be good for our friends south of us.

High 80's and calm today.  Fires popping up all over.  The ying and the yang.
Until next time.

But you're not in any immediate fire danger are you?

No, not now.  A few weeks ago we had a fire in the canyon leading to my home.  The fire was several miles away, but we had aerial tankers flying low over the house for several hours until they got things under control.    Last Friday I was in a mammoth traffic jam on the freeway caused by a large grass fire next to the freeway.  It took 1 1/2 hours to get home...normally 30 minutes.  Yesterday I noticed a large plume of smoke to the southeast of us.  It was probably ten miles from us and at a higher elevation.  I heard on the radio this morning that Highway 50 (major highway to Lake Tahoe) was closed because of fire.

Welcome to California.  The yin and the yang.

Until next time.

Crazy weather all over. I live north of Toronto,  close to Lake Simcoe. Thunderstorms everyday for the last week plus. Yesterday there was significant flooding in Toronto. More rain fell in one hour than what was the previous one day record set during hurricane Hazel in the 50's  . The rainfall measured at 126 ml, for the one hour, the July average rainfall is usually 74 ml . My backyard swimming pool literally overflowed.  Had to drain 4 inches this morning. I guess its all good for water levels that have been somewhat low but by my reckoning too much of a good thing too quickly. Thunderstorms tonight and tomorrow too. Thursday its supposed to clear.  The boat is geared up and ready to go.. fingers crossed.
