Tail Spinners
« on: 08/30/13 22:20 UTC »
I saw a tail spinner in the "Shad Blade" post and it sparked me to show a few custom tail spinner creations I have made.  I like using tail spinners for all kinds of species but I use them most on lake Michigan.  One I created from an Ultra Minnow mold.  The other is a long-arm tear drop that I designed to use a larger willow blade.  The image created with the big willow looks just like a shad or alewife.  You don't want to get crazy with the retrieve with this one, just slow roll it in deep water.  The long arm stabilizes the blade torque and doesn't allow it to roll over. I also like the in-line blades for Tail spinners.

Neat!! I wonder if those will catch salmon off of the Michigan City pier here in Indiana. Might have to make some up. I like to usr a single hook on some of my bass tail spins also.

Nice work. I'd bet that the bottom design would grab walleyes here thru the ice.

Yes they definitely catch trout and salmon.  A bait like this catches nearly everything at times.  I took them to FL and caught fish off the pier at Jetty Park on them.

Speaking of salmon, they are just starting to come in here in WI.  Popped one and missed one this morning.  Todays was on a Sonar (ZV) 3/4 ounce painted fire tiger.

I have 10 days slated for the end of September on Superior near Two Harbors. Salmons, steelhead and loopers, and lakers all will be shore side and catchable. I'll be well equipped this year.

Got a count from Indiana DNR. 5,000 steelhead have already passed upstream in the St. Joe River. However it's to hot and no one is catching fish yet. Time to clean up the smoker!
