Simple but effective crappie jigs

Here are some simple crappie jigs, this pattern is the first one I used to teach a friend how to tie hair jigs, it isn't hard but it looks cool and the fish really seem to like them. I've made them on 1/32oz heads with size #6 hook but these are 1/16oz walleye heads with the collar removed with a size #4 sickle hook. The top one is my "super olive" pattern and the bottom is "black bream",  the super olive consist of olive buck tail with olive pearl flash for the tail, excelsior olive chenille for the body and of course a walleye jig head painted in protec watermelon red flake powder paint. The black bream consist of black buck tail with pearl flash for the tail, bream chenille for the body, and a walleye jig head painted in protec black powder paint, it doesn't get any easier, here is a link to a video I did of a similar jig with a different pattern.   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cEKu3ycZ_w0

Another good post, Dan.  I especially liked the video because it brought back memories of coming home from the office and sequestering myself in my fly tying room for an hour or so just to relax.  I'm not what you would call a fast tyer, but I could knock out 6 or 10 flies in an hour X say 5 days (40 flies) X 50 weeks (2,000) X a whole lot of years = a boat load of flies.  I got the jitters a few years ago and started sticking myself when sweeping the materials back.  A lot of my flies started having this dark red stain on them and I'd get dizzy from blood loss.  OK...it wasn't quite that bad, but I don't tie much anymore.  Your video brought back fond memories and I thank you for that.

Those are some good looking hair ties for sure.... and I appreciate the timeliness of your sharing the video as it IS (or will be soon) hair jig season around here and that will only continue until the water gets....  well....  hard as a rock.

Thanks for sharing the info and inspiring the bunch of us to get back to the bench in time to still get the job done this Fall.

Thank you for the kind words Denny and Jerry, I really appreciate you your comments and whether it is inspiring someone to pick up a bobbin and tie for the first time or bringing back memories of a relaxing past time, that is what I try to do, I want to spark ideas and see what kind of magic will come off of 1 idea. Well I typed too much, back to the vise and see what else we can tie!!!
