Baits per gallon of plastic
« on: 10/26/13 17:46 UTC »
Curious how many baits i.e. 4" smoothy tubes or 6" carrots or 4 & 6 "senko's could be made out of a gallon of plastic?
Did some good reading tonight on the forums, you all are very informative, hoping a couple of you could chime in on what I am missing from my list I have purchased so far.

and if anyone has any thought's on my intended ventilation I was going to purchase a bathroom exhaust fan 100 cfm, make a vent hood out of thick vapour barrier, wood strapping tuck tape, use flexible ducting to run to a near by window and vent out the window through hole in 2 inch rigid styro foam

I have purchased
11- 2x colours
2- high heat glitters
4" senko injection mold 5 cavity
6" senko injection mold 4 cavity
4 " smooth tube 2 cavity w 2 splines & insert
4" mad grizzly 1 cavity injection mold
6" carrot 4 cavity injection mold
1 med injector
2 pyrex 8 onces measuring cups
1 instant read digital thermometer reads up to 480F

I know I still need
designated microwave, gloves, glasses, cookie sheet

any thoughts would be great thanks again

Mike

My best advise is to jump in. And pour some. Have fun. Post pics.

Looks like you have everything on your list to get going.  If it was you I would start with shooting the carrot mold first. It's very easy to do.  Very forgiving.

Ask questions anyone on here will be more then happy to help.

How many baits from a gallon of plastic is a tough one to answer.  Many variables are at play.  plastic is about the same as water; so a gallon will be 128 fluid oz. or around 8.25 pounds. A big factor is whether you recycle ( remelt and re-inject your sprues).  Many baits weigh 1/3 oz or so.  If you assume 25 % total "waste" factor then you come in around 0.40 oz per bait =  320 per gallon.  The heavier ( larger ) the bait the less the number per gallon, and vice versa.
