How to make scent oils
« on: 11/25/13 07:39 UTC »
I didn't see it on Do-It site so I want to make my own.

What I am wanting to do is make my own scents for the soft plastic lures. Im actually wanting a Shrimp flavor and a few others. I have checked around and found out that some people use olive oil to make their scents. I don't like that idea because olive oil have its own pungent flavor and I don't want that flavor to fight with the flavor Im trying to make.

So, I was wondering if any of you make your own scents to put in your plastic baits, if so could you share how you do it.

Yes, I know Bears sells shrimp scent, but I really want to make my own.

Hey Shane70! How's it going? What I do to make my own shrimp scent is to take 4oz. of worm oil and add powdered shrimp from the grocery store spice isle, add 1bag (about 2oz.) to worm oil, and cook it on low heat on the stove until it starts to boil, then turn off and let it set until slightly warm, then I strain liquid through a coffee filter 1 to 2 times to remove all of the shrimp powder ( if any of the powder gets into hot plastic it will bubble Big time!) It has worked very well for me cooked into plastic and when bagging baits. I hope this helps you out.

Something to think about when using organic products to make scenting oils is that they will go rancid after a while unless they have been chemically stabilized.

I make my own shad oil it's got to be the same thing but do shirmp or do you grass shrimp  but what i do is get cooler with a valve on the bottom and cheese cloth on top, one layer of shimp and one layers of pickling salt I would do 3 or 4 layers for about 2 or 3 days crack the value and if have oil coming out and filter out the particles it's something that you don't in the house :o :P
