Well here we are... smack dab in the middle of Winter. That, in these parts, typically means plenty of snow and cold. While we do have a fair amount of snow and have certainly had our share of cold temps already this season, today was a gem as it pertains to Winter in Iowa.
While many of my friends and neighbors head to the fields "lobbing lead" at fleeing deer or congregate in mass on local lakes or ponds for a little ice fishing during these colder months of the year, when the mercury goes over 35 and heads toward the 40 mark I begin to hear and smell the Trout stream from my recliner.
Today was such a day.

It was a very pleasant day for a walk and any walk that involves a fishing rod and the near absence of others is one to be cherished.
Trout fishing these skinny streams on a day like today can prove to be a little tricky. Today was no exception. With blue bird skies, LOW, gin clear water, and a few "put and take" Rainbows that are on the razor's edge of SPOOKED already.... the game begins to take on much more of a "hunting" feel than fishing really, but THAT is what makes it fun.
I managed to bring home 3 of the little Rainbow species terrorists that looked much like this...

TODAYS RAINBOW TROUT WEAPON OF CHOICE. (their choice)...
2.5" Fry - Motor Oil black flake with Gold Hyper Hi-Lite belly, 1/32 oz. round head jig, Matzuo 149 Sickle hook

Just a couple more comments: Walking a few miles in 8" snow is a lot like work. Some people call it exercise... I guess I'll just call it fishing. What's really funny is how much easier it is to tromp through the snow when you have a few fish in the bag.

Thanks for looking... carry on.
