Dents and bubbles in my bait
« on: 12/30/13 09:57 UTC »
I know there are a ton of threads on this but I can't seem to pinpoint why it's happening. I work outside in a building for the most part and I rarely had this problem in the summer so, of course, I thought it was the temp of my mold and injector so I brought out a heater to warm them up... Still dents and large air bubbles...

I just started pouring my liquid plastic into the injector instead of just sucking it up. I also always purge the air from it after doing so. But I don't know if that's causing the bubbles? It's not like moisture bubbles because they are large.

I don't have a thermometer because I never thought it was necessary so I don't know what temp. I've tried hotter and colder but just clogs off my nozzle when I do it just a little colder. Should I heat the nozzle even more?

HELP!

First thing I would do is get a thermometer so you know what temps your pouring at.

seems like youre doing the injector the same way i do some times by pouring it to the injector i fil it then cap it still holding it nozzel end up.then i pull back a lil & i see steam flow out then my plastic right behind it. as far as your dents you may have to hold pressure on the plunger for up to 20 seconds depending on the mold then top it off that might help some of the dents.

Working plastic without a thermometer is like driving in a blizzard at night with welders goggles on. Get a thermometer.

Haha I didn't know it was that important. Just always seemed to do fine without one

Maybe your mold is too large for the injector and you're running out of plastic, even though it makes a complete bait. What mold are you shooting and how many ounces is your injector? I have a stick bait mold that makes 7 and it pretty much takes a full large injector. At least 7oz or 8oz.

It's a medium injector with a 4 cavity stick mold. But I was trying to inject as little as I could I fill the mold. Kipbass you solved my problem haha! Thank you very much.

I just knew it couldn't be the temperatures or anything. Just wasn't thinking about how the plastic at end of injector is always thick. I hadn't even read about anyone doing that so I didn't think of it

If you want the plug in your injector to be smaller, preheat the injector. just remember to wear your gloves. this will allow more plastic to go into the mold.

That's what I've been doing but i was just making it so there was only about  1/2 inch of plug left. But that small part was cooling too fast and that was making it so when I topped it off, the spruce had already cooled just enough to not allow any more plastic to flow into the baits
