rouge sale !

Just a heads up our Bass Pro had some Rouges on sale for 1.47 floating and suspending models .  I don't know if all Bass Pros had em on sale but it might be worth looking at. FYI I wouldn't go to the  Independence Mo store I bought all they had  I really like Rouges in the spring and fall.

Lamar, you must be buying a heck of a lot of baits to paint to get the price below 1.47 with split rings and hook by the time you pay shipping. I fling a little paint on some baits myself so I'm pudy familiar with the cost.  I would bet a hamburger that a rouge has caught more fish than any other jerk bait! Possibly any other jerk bait combined. I would also bet that you will not find one elite pro that doesn't pack a box of rouges. Its cool if its a waste of money for you but some might enjoy saving 3 or 4 bucks on a heck of a bait but..... I could be wrong . I would buy some of your baits for 1.46 but I would need split rings, hooks and you to ship em

  That's not my point. I can catch fish on my baits. So why at no matter what price buy some other bait. To put my bait down to use theirs is a waste of money.

Darn..I wish I had a bass pro Shop near me. Those are great baits..and since I don't make my own hard baits I would grab some!

I'm with Lamar; fish caught on home brews bring more satisfaction than any store bought ever could. 

The best example of this happened to me about 15 years ago when I was testing some hand carved top-water baits inspired by dear ol' Dad...  These baits weren't even painted yet as I was eyeballing the action before continuing to carve or making the decision to weatherproof.  Long story short, I doubled on a pair of smallies (14 - 16 inches) on a single cast while using one of these baits.  The first fish hit at the beginning of the cast and the second fish hit as I was fighting the first one (but after a few jumps, so I know it wasn't there initially).  I figure it must have happened about 3/4 back to the boat when I thought I picked up a gob of weeds; imagine my surprise when I saw the brown pair boatside.  I grabbed the lure by the body and lifted them into the boat for my partner to admire... his surprise was even greater than mine! 

After releasing the fish (and a few deep breaths), I immediately retired that lure.  In forty plus years of fishing, that has been my only "blue light special" on a single lure - I don't count umbrella types a single lure.  I likely would have retired the lure, even if it was store bought, but no store bought lure (at any price) would have made the event more memorable than having it happen while using one of my own lures.

I buy a lot of sale name brand baits to repaint. I also make baits; but it's more time consuming.

When I was fishing early spring at lake of the ozarks a couple years ago, a guy asked me "you catch em jiggin' or rougin'?" They are deadly in the Ozark lakes.

I think catching fish is the name of the game,  regardless if it's on a store bought or homemade bait.  If I knew I could catch more because they bit top water over my plastic for that day, then I fish what they are wanting.

Another example. . If you wanted to introduce someone who never fished before to fishing, are you going to let them haul water all day and possibly never want to fish again? Or will you let go of your pride and tie on the store bought lure, and gain another fishing partner?  This is just my opinion and nothing more.

Don't misread my statement; it is definitely about catching fish, and I will at times switch to whatever seems to be the hot ticket (even if it's a store bought lure) because I don't like getting wiped by the guy at the other end of the boat.  But day in and day out, I kinda take the "Pride on the Line" tag a bit more to heart... It's similar to whitetail enthusiasts that would rather hunt with a bow than rifle. 

Whether hunting or fishing, I feel the more of ourselves we put in, the more reward we will get out.  That simple philosophy keeps my handiwork in play about 90% of the time I'm out there.

I went through a phase for a couple years where I thought I had to throw only what I made (except hard baits as I have never made them).  Eventually I let go of that and it did 2 things.  It made fishing more enjoyable without the guilt and secondly, it reduced the number of different baits I made to just those that I prefer over any store bought baits in their category.  I feel I make great soft plastics, but there are still certain baits that I buy in a store.  I used to feel bad about it, but have no qualms about it now. 

The feeling of a bass completely choking on a bait you made yourself is awesome.  But I have also done it long enough to know that sometimes there is something else I should be throwing.  Now I don't even think about it.

I think most people would be shocked if they knew what the Elite Pros fish with as compared to what the post tournament write up says.  Confidence is a great thing, as for me it no longer hinges on whether I shot the plastic or not.
