Reason for adding salt? Help!

I'm new here, first post! I'm about to start making baits and would like to know...  What is the reason/purpose for adding salt to a soft plastic bait?

Welcome to the family Brady!
But I use salt to add weight to my baits so they sink without a weight. It can also be used to give the plastic 'flavor' so the fish have something to taste. But mainly weight for me.

So do you use salt and a scent together for a taste?  I guess you might want some weight when fishing a weightless bait like a wacky senko?

Yes especially in a senko. I put the salt actually in the plastic, then I use worm oil in the bag of baits when they are done. So if you don't want the salts in your baits, just buy some of the upper hand scents they have listed on caney creek

And if you are trying to add weight, I recommend buying the HD additive. It costs more than salt but it adds weight, the baits are softer, and are way more durable in my opinion. (I shoot 4.5in senkos with it)

Light salt (1 tablespoon per cup of plastic) is used for taste.

Heavt salt (4 heaping tablespoons + 2 tablespoons softener per cup of plastic) is used as weught for Senko style baits or any bait you want to sink slow when weightless. Works well in weightless flukes and trick worms too.
