3.5" 10 cavity carrot mold

Well, pulled the trigger this morning on the 10 cavity mols 2.5 gallons of plastic and lots of colors and glitter! My question is, approx how many ox of plastisol is needed to shoot this mold? Thanks in advance, Jim

Mix up at least 5oz of plastic.  You are gonna want to keep the sprue filled.  Also hold pressure for at least 10 to 15 secs.  You are gonna love that mold.

Get Your 4 oz. injector FULL to shoot that mold because it takes a good bit of plastic to fill it.  You'll learn how much the mold takes as You work with it.

I shoot this mold a little on the warm side -  350 +/-.  It requires a lot of plastic as it is 10 cavities of a fair sized bait.  This mold wants to be "hugged" longer than any mold I own or you will get dents in some baits.  Biglewers was spot on on the injecting, not a real strong pressure or you risk flashing.  Just firm enough to feel the mold draw down the plastic.  Good clamping is required on this mold.   Once you get to playing good, I can see a laminate plate in your future  .

Thats the way I took it - I mean, I do hug my fishing stuff (and partner) as often as possible*, but I am pretty sure he means to keep the pressure on the top of the injector a bit longer than normal.

I'm still fairly new to this as well, but I followed the suggestions from this thread and no more dented carrots!


*I do not suggest hugging hot plastic - ever - just - don't.

I hug all my molds... my wife thinks its odd but I call them my pretties and named them. The one I don't like the most I names Denny

I cradle them, hold them close, and utter "my preciousss".  If I don't do this step before shooting plastic on a given day, nothing goes right.

Yes.  My definition of hugging is -   Assuring that the injector is solidly attached to the sprue opening and apply a light, but solid, downward pressure on the plunger after the initial mold injection.  You can actually feel the mold take in more plastic for a bit.  You do not ever want to have enough pressure at any time during a injecting cycle where plastic will squirt from the injector or the injector / mold juncture.   As MO Quack might say " Be one with the Injector ".
Has anyone talked to you about purging ; or burping; your injector before injecting a mold?
This is important with this mold as well to avoid air bubbles in the baits.   

P.S. -  Don't hug Mo-Quack either.

One thing you don't want to hear when you inject plastic is a burping sound....
