Which Molds
« on: 01/11/14 20:08 UTC »
Ok looking at the different molds on here and am trying to decide which ones I want to start with. Probably can only start with one or two. I primarily fish for crappie but an occasional bass manages to slip in too. If you could only get two molds, fishing for Crappie, which two would it be? Your input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you ahead of time. Eric

No question with out a doubt 2.5 fry! Next would be 2.5 carrot . If I fished more ponds then the 2.5 swim fry would get the nod. You really can't make a bad choice really. Well shoot then the thumper fry is awesome too

Mo Quack has given you two excellent choices.  The 1.75 Inch fry is an excellent bait as well.  I would also look at the 2.5 inch flap jack if your typical crappie is 10 inches or better.  I would suggest a sample pack of pan fish baits that catch your eye.   This would provide an in hand, side by side comparison of the baits.

I would have a hard time deciding on just 2, but it would be from the following list:
The new 2.5 kchub
The gogo grub
2" thumper
2.5 swim fry
1.75 croaker
1.75 carrot or 1.75 fry

Of this list, the carrot is the only one I have.  I got it recently and it shoots great.  Haven't fished it yet, since I prefer water to be in liquid form. :)  My top 2 choices would probably be the k chub and the fry or carrot.  That gives you an action bait and a finesse bait.  I have a grub from another company, so next on my list to buy is the croaker, it's a badass bait.  I really like the thumper, but it's a pricey mold to start out with.

Without question, I would recommend the thumper fry as your primary mold... you got good vibes in a small package, and if you want, you can cut the paddle off for a more subtle pin tail.

As a second choice, I would be inclined to go with the mini croaker and use it in much the same way (with and without paddles) for nymph and/or cricket imitations.  Heck, you could maybe even try it as the frog it was designed to be.

I have no doubt both of these (with paddles) can tickle many a bass' interests as well.  (I've caught 4 pounders on 2" twisters in the past when the bite got tough; tiny jig baits can be a GREAT change up over finesse worms.)
