OP snake... Help!
« on: 02/06/14 16:20 UTC »
I decided to try out making an open pour snake mold with my dremel and a block of plaster. Nothing too fancy but just to try it out and see what it looks like. I tried two different designs: the first is a thicker body and the second is sort of like a ribbon. Neither of them do anything at all in the water?? do I need to make the waves in the body bigger? Smaller? Or do I just new to make it skinnier and longer?
I'm going to guess the left one is 7-8" and the right one is 9-10" and I'm using ccm medium plastic

Do you know what type of plastic floats good? I read about this plastic that floats and is really stretchy but is bad for OP  because it's stringy. Any idea who makes this?

I think I would make the waves smaller or tighter together and try soft formula for more action..

Those look great BTW, impressive!

You can get floating bubbles from MF.  CCM plastic does float though.  Use soft plastic or put softener in your medium.  If you want a lot of action, put rings in certain parts of it. Like little joints.

J....on those bubbles being mentioned, if they are the glass variety you'll want to not use them maybe. They are very, very hard to use safely and you can end up with very serious lung issues if you accidently inhale any of them. These things should be pulled from the market as a product for casual use.

Thanks for the tip Ctom, yesterday I was just stirring with a stick to make bubbles and it made the snake float pretty good when pouring just one. I don't know how good it would be in making quantity of them since all the bubbles float to the top

J....you can put tons of small bubbles in the plastic by stirring with a popsicle stick. And I mean lots. Tape three or four of the sticks together at one end as a handle and stir your new, hot plastic. You'll get bubbles

I would say joint the head to the body and then where ever you have a bend.
