Rigging the Wutz it

I was playing around today with how to rig my 5" wutz it

Noticed that alone the bait floats - cool
Rigged on just a worm hook I only had 2/0 on hand but that alone seemed enough weight to sink the bait - what hook is better here a 4/0??

I had some Gam 5/0 1/16 oz hooks where the weight is in the belly but it seemed feeding that through the bait splits the nose pretty good as the weight is too wide - what am I doing wrong here?

I use the gam screw lock hooks with the weight as you describe. That way the weight never actually goes through the bait.

Thanks man - I'll have to grab me some I'm guessing 4/0 is about the right size for this bait

I usually use a 3,4,or 5 on the zoom swimmin flukes lol. Just whatever I grab from my vest first. IMO it's just whatever size hook you feel comfortable with that doesn't hinder the baits action. May not be the case for everybody but I RARELY ,if ever, miss a fish due to a smaller hook so it's just whatever fits. That being said, I always use a gamakatsu EWG if I'm t-rigging. That may also be debatable but it's the first "good" hook I started using, and thy fit my needs and brin in the fish! (They don't rust, stay sharp, and I can afford them!)

take your hook point & punch it thru til the point comes out where its going to in the head then  back it out. taking the eye of the hook push it up thru where it acme out then thru the head of the bait so it pops out of the nose. youll have to do it while its not tied to the line but the nose wont have a hole bored thru it. Like said below screw locks will be the way to go or anything with a pin thats free moving

You need to tank test your bait with the hooks.  An un-weighted hook will provide a different action than a weighted hook.  Also the location of the weight on the hook will also change the action ( glide path ) as well as different amounts of weight.  As stated; the best way to attach a weighted hook is to insert the hook before you tie it on.  Run the point through as you normally would,  then run the hook eye up through the just pierced path from the bottom of the bait.  Then tie the hook to the line.  I find even a twist on hook's action will be some different than a standard worm hook of the same size and weight.

Jerry...different ways of rigging swim baits, or other baits for that matter, might make a good how-to video on Do-It's web site.  Just a thought, mind you.  A very good thought, but just a thought nonetheless.  (Mo...that's pronounced "none...the...less".)

Great tips guys thanks ya ill tank test in my kitchen sink lol - I grabbed some vmc swim bait hooks that have a screw lock on them in 3, 4 and 5/0 that's what my canadian tire (store) had
