Large Injector Help
« on: 02/17/14 10:27 UTC »
I am having some trouble with my new injector and I was wondering if anyone else has had the same problem or what I need to do to rectify the situation.  I cant seem to get the injector to get a full tube of plastic to injection into my pro series mold.  I messed with the thing for a few hours yesterday and only had 2-3 good shoots out of probably 30.  It seems like it doesn't have as good of a seal as my smaller injector and it allows a lot of air into the tube.  I never had this problem with my smaller injector and any help would be appreciated.

I have about a thousand baits I need to make before my buddys bachelor party and that's a lot to be making 4 at a time, which is the reason I got the pro series mold and large injector to begin with.

This is what you need to do to trouble shoot it.

Disassemble the injector and put some worm oil on your finger and rub it on the plunger o-ring. Once this is done reassemble the injector but leave the nozzle off. Place the nozzle and injector on a heat source such as a griddle/hit plate at around 250° F. Heat up a big batch of scrap plastic, preferably a transparent color so you can see air bubbles if any. Once the plastic is heated and the injector has been pre heated grab the injector off of the heat. While holding the tube vertical nozzle end up pour in your plastic. Do not fill it to the rim, leave plenty of room for the nozzle. Once it has been filled remove the nozzle from your heat source and assemble your injector while holding it vertically. Once the nozzle is in place and locked in, slowly apply pressure to the plunger rod still holding it vertically. Press until plastic comes out of the tip, turn the injector over and shoot as many molds as you can.

If you do this without pre heating the injector and nozzle the plastic will cool too quickly for you to run this test.

Always wear your gloves and a long sleeve shirt while testing, the air you push out may have a plastic wrapped bubble that may pop upon exiting the nozzle and attach itself to your skin.

If you do this and the injector runs fine please let me know and we can move on to the next step.

The large injector takes some getting use to but it will change your life once you master it.

Hope this helps,

Drew

If you wanna check your seal. Place your finger over the cool injector nozzle. Draw back on the plunger. It should create vaccumm and pull the plunger back down on its own. If not you have a sealing problem. Which can be resolved with teflon tape.

Did this and it worked out the way it was supposed to work.  Ended up making about 65 baits last night in about an hour.  Thanks for the tip.  I do believe it was the rapid cooling of the plastic entering the cold tube of the injector
