Well after playing with a baby bass pattern on a few different swim jigs I think I finally got the top color right. The is a 3/8oz Trokar Pro Swim Jig with a 5/0 Mustad 32796 heavy wire flat eye hook, it has solid black 5/32" 3D eyes and a 50 strand silicone skirt tied on with 26 gauge green wire. I was trying a bunch of combinations that just didn't look right too me, I tried green pumpkin on top with a white body and then a pearl body, then Watermelon over the same white and then pearl and I even went with baby bass green and that looked a little better. Well I had to stop the experiments to pick up some jerkbaits at my local Cabelas and while I was there I too a look at the tackle craft section and decided to grab a color called watermelon pepper, and that is what is in the picture. The bait has a pearl body, I also put a little bit of orange on the belly/throat area, and then finished it with a watermelon pepper back, now this one looks right to me, let me know what you think. I will also give you guys a quick tip, the lateral line I did with a component systems quick coat lure marker, these aren't sharpies, they are actual paint and you even have to shake them like a rattle can with the rattle included!! But seriously, what is nice about them is I put the lateral line on and then cure the bait, what happens is the paint bakes right along with the powder and it makes it permanent with no fading or discoloration, after doing that you can clear coat over it and it won't smear or come off, so if you want to paint gills or anything use those markers and then cure, it works great!!
