I figured I'd post this since I can't fish right now, but I'm making stuff to get ready for when the ice melts! The jig is the Trokar Arky jig, both are 1/4oz with a 3/0 Trokar TK800 jig hook. The jig on top is black on bottom with a watermelon pepper on top which is dark and metallic similar to the candy colors, I put that color on top as it does have some glitter in it that catches light and a little flash may help. Anyway, that jig is tied with black 210 denier thread in a finesse style with a crop top, the reasons for it are to provide movement and to slow the fall, the finesse style jig has a more slender profile so I'm using the same size jig but making it look smaller to be more appealing to fish that are spooky and not active. The bottom jig is brown with an orange front, this is meant to mimic the craws we have here as they will get orange on them like this. This jig is tied in a more traditional style with the skirt strands doubled back to make for a bulkier presentation with a good deal of movement with the strands flair out. I tied this jig with green 26 gauge wire instead of thread, the reason is the wire is much easier to do on this style as there is more material to deal with as you have to leave the front strands extra long so they double back but the wire is as effective at securing the strands as the thread is. I made thes 1/4oz for where I'm going to throw them which is in shallow water that has some color but also 3' of visibility and the cover is what I'll call moderate but the depth is less the 6' so if it is too heavy it will fall faster than I want it too in the spring. I just wanted you to see how different the same jig looks when done in different style and it could be even more as you can use more or less skirt material, and it is what is cool about making your own, you can customize it for what you need.
