My stick molds (Dels) like to be shot slow and steady. I hold 10-15 saecs and usually need to top off twice as the plastic gets sucked in.

I've never had a temp issue with this mold. Like said hold for a few seconds and then top it off. It shoots very easy.

My stick mold from bears doesn't like to play nice. The top bait seems way to close to the top of the mold and even when shooting pretty cool it will dent if I don't hold around 5 seconds of pressure then continue topping off until it stops pulling plastic. The reason for so little time with pressure for me, is that my injector covers more than half of the opening for that last bait and just seems to work better if I have less pressure time.

This problem is more than likely not a problem with the do it senko but that's me. Other than that, sticks are very easy to shoot and do half pour laminates.

Thanks for the tip wallyc. I think I'll just deal with it for now and try out your pipe idea until I can save enough for it

Sometimes the "fix" seems so simple.....

Increasing the diameter of the sprue channel would help a lot in preventing denting, but then that portion of plastic left over is seen as waste....$$$ come into play here. Making the channel larger may require re-tooling the machine too, which of course leads to more $$$ for the mold.

Those fortunate few who attended the get-together know how much detail and bench testing is done before a new product is released. Taking the high road as Do-It did with the Senko worm mold, they had to be positive that the mold did it's job well and without issues before it flew to public hands. I'm not certain that the same could be said of other mold makers' products. One would think that after being called out on issues with certain baits/molds these other companies wouldn't remedy the problem.

Applying "back pressure" to keep a thick bodied bait (or plastic part) from denting is much more likely to be successful than the sprue extender. Maintaining pressure on the injection is a common method to offset dents in plastic part molding machines. Another common way to minimize denting is to use a foaming agent but I haven't found a way to make that to be practical for our bait making application.

The sprue extender would be helpful if you are getting hollow heads on the baits (because the bait has pulled all the plastic from the sprue) but most likely will not help with the dents in the baits (unless there is a lot of plastic in that extender and putting a pressure on the other plastic within the mold which doesn't seem likely).

Remember ...LIGHT pressure!!! Pushing too hard on a hand injector is just looking for a bad accident if something slips and hot plastic starts shooting around the work area!

The other way to minimize denting is to shoot the bait as cool as possible (make sure you get your plastic to 350 on the first heat) and then letting it cool to the lowest temp that you can successfully shoot the bait. This works the best for me.
