I like 2 drops of  green watermelon and 2 drops of brown watermelon, X2 stuff, for the back color. For the belly I mix up my silver pearl hand pour belly color and add a drop of plain yellow and a drop of plain brown to the 4 ounces. I'm looking for a dirty semi-transparent  color that isn't brown and isn't yellow. If I am close but no bananas I'll use a toothpick dipped in white to shift things around a little. Nothing like white to get colors to move.

For fishing top water, junk pile scrap.  In most cases bass, pike, and Muskie just don't care. If I'm making look pretty, natural colors along the lines Tom gives.

That's so true... I like making nice looking plastics (though mine are seldom as detailed as the hardcore commercial guys' products), but as good as my originals are, some of the colors that I end up liking the most - especially for crawdads - come from the mixed remelts.  (I do the same for frogs about half the time, typically staying more within the green hues).

You may be able sell remelts at a discount price (or even a premium price), but the problem in your case is you will never be able to truly duplicate them; and as a commercial lure producer, you need to put out consistent products.   Experiment and keep good notes - I have no doubt you will come up with many fine recipes.

Right now as the business goes it is just to friends, family, and the occasional internet buyer and I did it to be safe and get some lures out :) but they all usually tell me exactly what they want and that's how I like it for now. This is more for personal use and I really like the idea of using scraps for myself and the nice looking ones for buyers :) last year I mixed my scraps in sticks and man they were killer. Turned out a dirty grey with rainbow glitter

Thanks for the recipe Ctom, I am with you on the bellies being a dirty looking white. But something I haven't really understood is why do lure companies put so much detail on the top section of frogs when that section will be above the water?

The bait that catches the most fisherman, catches the most money.   ;)

Efishnc that's what I thought but I didn't know if it was needed :)

here is one I whipped up the other day. It has amber, pumpkinseed, watermelon and white in the belly. Pearl and uv powder too. Just looked a touch too pearly for me though. Plus I need to work on my pouring of the legs :p they're a bit sloppy to sell

They look plenty good to me... and I know the bass won't argue.

Any color scheme that is going to be one of your "regular" recipes, but doesn't meet your QA standard, set aside on a personal pile.  If your personal pile gets too big, start selling some of them as "injured" (or whatever title you want to denote to your customers that they aren't perfect) giving a little discount or putting extra baits in the package - they'll sell - just make sure your premium baits stay premium.

I think most people put too much thought into pearl belly colors. They are basically a contrast color. The color you show here J is a great belly color that has a great contrast to the back. Nothing at all wrong with it.

I agree with Tom, good looking belly color.  Looks close to the green frogs here.  I don't pour any legs, I just use pearl for the belly color, but good work!
