bright colors for bass?
« on: 03/20/14 19:31 UTC »
I don't fish bright colors for bass much, I know they can work well during the spawn but is that the only time? Do you guys use bright colors just for tails or for whole baits?

I like natural colored bodies with bright claws, tails, ext. just to make it pop!

I too enjoy some success using bright colors on tips and tails but haven't tried whole baits in bright colors too much.  I typically try to keep the colors as natural as possible.  I have heard from some pretty reliable sources that hot pink is something that works for them at times...  I just haven't brought myself to try it long enough to find out on my own.  I do know that chartreuse has a very natural ability to reflect UV light and perhaps I find myself a little partial to using that more than other "bright" colors.

Maybe we're missing out on something.  I'll be watching this thread to see what others have to offer, good topic.   ;)

It's pretty crazy, but I've caught a lot of bass with hot pink and at any time during the year

Here in Ohio our water can get pretty muddy. I'll use chartreuse and white spinner baits just to help them stand out better. Or a black jig with a royal blue trailer seems to work too. I've seen several guys use a pink floating worm and just walk it across the top. The other thing I will use is a bright chartreuse, white or pink frog in the slop on a sunny day. They seem to be able to zone in on it better. Other then that I'm a CC Green, purple and black guy.

I throw frogs/toads and hard topwaters for my bassing. The frogs and toads I make for my use I make with hot feet, either hot orange or chartreuse. I carry a few larger frogs in bright red [I use X2 tomato for this] when pike are out and about, they love the bright red. I just seem to do better with the frogs and toads when the feet/legs are hot, but only the feet/legs.

I like to dip my baits in a little bit of chartreuse just on the tails. I had a request for a very bright chartreuse skinny carrot not what I would use but the guy has caught several bass on them check out Bass in the Hood on facebook for photos.

I'm starting to make some bass baits that are a little brighter, or with a larger percentage of the bait being bright.  I've caught many bass on brightly colored spinners and cranks, why not plastics?  Especially plastic swimbaits, why WOULDN'T you use a brightly colored swimbait in the same conditions you use bright cranks?  White cranks are killers for me, white or pearl plastics should be too.
