new molds
« on: 03/24/14 20:56 UTC »
I have a few requests.  Everyone modifies their swim jig molds for a wire trailer keeper. Please update all of the swim jig molds to include slot for a trailer keeper. Also... I believe their is some demand for a chatterbait style mold. Something with an insert and maybe a spinnerbait hook. What ever is better than buying the over priced spincasted ones or modifying a mold to make your own. Thanks

Kris, I make several with various jig molds but I also make one on an ultra minnow spinnerbait. What I do is just cut a piece of .040 wire and bend a hook leg and place in the mold, then after it is poured and make a loop, put the blade on and then close the loop. The neat part of this is you can have the blade right at the head or you can have it 2" in front of the head, doing it like that produces serious vibration but not much side to side, I have a friend that loves it like that. I do agree though about the keepers, but I think only the ones with ball collars need to be updated. I still would love to see a swarming hornet type head.

If you ever want to open up the eye of a hook just enough to slip in a chatter blade, take a good sized end nipper or side cutter and put the blade ends right where the eye of the hook closes.  Now squeeze the pliers and it will open the eye just enough to slide the blade in.  then just squeeze it back shut with a pliers or tap it closed with a small hammer.

Smalljaw, What type hook are you using on those chatterbaits? Is it a straight shaft with the eye inside the lead head?
