Rough Weather Ahead
« on: 04/27/14 06:47 UTC »
Looks as if the next three days will be hairy here. Giving 3 - 5 inches of rain with strong tornadoes. They've been warning people about this weather system for three days now. They've put our whole department "on call" when off shift. Hopefully they've missed this forecast.

Thought you might want to meet Sugar. She's my search and rescue dog.

You guys with the dogs do some amazing work when things get ugly. I know it takes some really special training and that takes time. Thanks for your dedication to what you do.

Sugar has never been used in an actual rescue. She's one year old and just got out of school two weeks ago. We did make a visit to a local grammer school where she was in hog heaven with all the kids. Maybe she'll never be used.

My last dog was a true champion. We spent five days on the coast after Katrina and he performed flawless. The dogs are the hero, you just follow their lead. We way underestimate how smart animals are.

One more year and I'm retired. twenty-nine years in the fire service.

All this crap weather to our south is sure raising heck up here. We have a NE wind at about 25-30 mph sustained this morning with gusts predicted to run up to 45 to 50 mph. All day. And tomorrow, Tuesday, Weds and Thurs. Rains up to 2" at times are suppose to come with this too. I'm hoping things settle down before Weds for a few hours that morning so I can fish.

Looks like round one of the weather will be starting here in about 30 minutes.  This time of year you really pay attention when the fronts come through between 2:30 and 7:30.  I hope the dog stays in the house.  Really pretty, smart looking young lady.

Our winds are gusting to 39 mph right now. 27 mph sustained winds. We've had scattered showers leaving us with 1 3/8" of rain thus far, but we have a huge wave about an hour out that looks seriously wet.

I was standing in the garage looking out the door when one of my larger more expensive wind chimes went past me horizontally.  A hub busted so I've been busy gluing things back together. Hope if holds up. That chime was one of those registered chimes...big $$$$ for that pup.

So far the rain has stayed fairly moderate and no gully washers have occurred. We need some moisture but we don't need to have half our yard wash away to get it.

This is about the hour things get hairy for you southern guys. Keepin ya'll in the prayers.

Nothing but heavy rain so far. The really rough stuff should hit us tomorrow from the best they can tell. First time I can ever remember them telling everyone where the public storm shelters are located this early.

Keeping everyone West of us in our prayers now.

CTOM, that's what you get for leaving the door open up there all winter! Let all that cold air escape South.

Been a rather boring shift so far. :)

That huge low is stalled right over north central Nebraska and is spinning like a child's toy top. Our wind and rain are coming back from the SE now. That's a bad direction for us to get weather. On the weather map I use I see snow or a mix getting imbedded back towards western Kansas and Nebraska. They're mentioning flurries for late Weds and Thursday here along with the rain. How fitting....my Magnolia is just about to bloom and then we get snow so I can't see the flowers.
