It does indeed take a LOT of plastic, but to me this is the size to have. I purposely chose the 4" to make the strongest disturbance on the surface and in the slop... if you get short strikes, give them a better target with a brighter belly... I personally would not go any smaller. (I do have the 1.75" croaker, but this is to use as a mini-craw/nymph imitation, not a top water bait.)
