I'm making stick baits can you use regular salt to make plastics or do you have to get something special?

Regular Salt is not pure and is not recommended..  I would suggest worm salt, pool salt or Pickling salt.  Worm and pool salt have a very fine texture and the pickling salt has a senko kind of texture

What size injector are you using?   Use the large injector.  Make sure all your vents are venting.  Sound like you have a vent problem for the top worm.  Or shoot it slow and hold th presure for like 5-10 seconds.  Then keep your spru filled.
