Whats your next project?
« on: 11/07/14 10:25 UTC »
Since I'm not deer hunting this year, wondering what everyone is getting ready to do hobby wise? I'm finishing up tying walleye harnesses with slow death rigs. Got a bunch of jigs and spinner blades ready to powder paint. Then I'm going to be tying up some crappie jigs (wool and satin, chenille with living rubber, etc)

Just got transitioned into the new house and in college  ;D Been a long time but I'm going to find me a nice spot in the basement, throw in some ventilation, and set up shop! I can't wait to get back at it

I was going to call the deer hunting done earlier this fall but a buddy [retired fireman] lost his hunting property and I asked if he wanted to hunt where I have. I'm old enough where problems can pop up and I am not doing this hunt stuff alone but he should be plenty in the know about emergency situations. That said, I feel safe enough to give it one last run.

Other than that, I take it one day at a time. The lungs are giving up on me so I won't be shooting plastic inside any more. On warmer days I'll work in the garage. I actually like the cool in the garage and spend a lot of time out there even when its well below zero. Always something out there to do and the plastic has really found a niche there where I don't have distractions so much.

Hopefully I'll have jerky in the smoker this time next week. Or better yet, chewing on some. Between the lead casting and shooting plastics I stay pretty busy. I won't fish ice anymore unless I find a day that's warm enough to just wander from hole to hole and jig. I've done my damage thru the ice and will leave that for others who think they have the ice fishing figured out. Ma's hinting at Hawaii again this winter so I may be getting some new tan lines. Denny borrowed a speedo from me after the last trip out there and won't give it back so the tan lines will be starting just above the knees and part below that.

I'll continue tinkering with Soft Baits.  Other than "life as usual", I'll be enjoying the few hobbies I've built.  Specifically, I'll be working on the things I've posted about on here, plus a few other Soft Plastic Munchies...and maybe some Jigheads too.

Winter usually finds me filling the fly box with a bunch of buggy Fly Tie fishy hooks, but I'll be fishing until the water gets hard.  Then wait for "safe ice" and commence to begging Mr. Kyle to take me ice fishing.  ;)

I just booked a week at a wilderness lodge in Canada for my Son and myself to celebrate his 30th birthday. We are going up at the end of June.

So....I am going to be shooting as many 3" and 4" Tubes as possible along with the Do-it Tube Jig molds from lightweight up to 3/8oz.  The tubes will be in Watermelon Brn/ red flake, black/blue flake, chartreuse/silver flake  and MoMilk.

I got the bug seeing all those nice Blade Baits...so I'm asking for the blade bait mold for Christmas. I really like blade baits but I loose a lot so making them myself will pay off!

I'm also going to shoot a bunch of K-grubs and the 4" Swim Tail Chub grub in MoMilk.

Last but not least.....a bunch of 3.5" Thump Grubs in watermelon/brn red flake and black/blue flake.. And a bunch of chartreuse

That should keep me busy when I'm not ice fishing!

Some of us do that here too Paul. The Mississippi River below a couple of the dams offers some stellar winter fishing from boats. It can get chilly below 25 degrees if the wind is blowing but the fishing can be nuts.

Brad and I are going to be busy getting ready for the big two day fishing show we do in February. Last year we sold around 200 bags. This year we plan to sell more. We are changing our plan of attack and are hoping it works.

Continue working on my new holographic foil jig finishes.
I am also making ice fishing jigs. Now that winter is here and we have fishable ice i'm sure I'll have more of those to make.
can't have my wife outfishing me again.
Got some more ice blades in to make some new designs so I'll also play with those.
I need to rewire my snowmobile trailer before we gwt too much snow dumped on us.

I'm at the lake right now sticking some walleye's. Took three day off and the fish gods have been good to me. Had a great time off. Been making jig's and plastic all fall for the guys at the lake. The winter will give me time to get ahead of the game for the spring. If I'm not fishing I'm making something for fishing or watching fishing on TV. 8)
May your days be filled with sun shine and you always have a tight line. AMEN
