We had an issue with our last 20 gallons of plastisol. The best way I can describe the issue is the baits look splotchy. Some areas are shiny and others are very dull and almost sticky to the touch. I will explain what we do when injecting. All plastic is rotated and mixed before adding colorant. We heat up the plastic to 365 degrees and stir thoroughly. We then inject the baits and lay them on a table to cure. After about 24 hours the baits start to change the way they look and after 48 hours are very splotchy. It would seem like they are not being heated enough but the plastic is being brought up to well above 350 degrees. We will have an occasional batch that turns out good and consistent as far as being shiny and not tacky.
This happened on the last 20 gallons (regular) so we moved to another company for the last 80 gallons of plastic. Now I ordered another 10 gallons of CC plastisol to see if it was any better and we are having the same issue. What I have noticed since the issue started is this plastisol has very few bubbles. There were always less bubbles than other plastisols but these last batches with the issues have ZERO bubbles and shot great. Only problem is when they cure they look horrible. I have some soft plastisol from about a year ago that I go through the same process and it cures perfect every time so I know something is up I just can't figure it out. We are on the West Coast and the temp has been in the 60s. It was the same in the summer when it was 80 degrees outside as well. Any ideas?
