Just wanted to introduce myself
« on: 12/28/14 10:40 UTC »
Thanks to a wonderful wife , I joined the do-it soft plastic family for Christmas ,

I have been a long time reader and admirer of alot of you guys work so I decided to join the forums . I started this summer with building my workshop , a nice collection of do it lead molds and supplies (tip up screw lock jig mold which I absolutely love ) , football head jig mold , poison jig mold , and a ultra minnow spinner bait mold . I'm a ladle pourer , and through alot of trial and error I have made some great jigs to try this spring and the addiction began .

So a mudbug mold to go with those jigs was the first addition . I just want to give a big thanks  to CTom who has treated me like someone I have known my whole life instead of a stranger and got me pointed in the right direction . I look forward to meeting , talking , and learning from alot of others as all of you have great work .

Thanks to Do-It for there products and the great people on this site .

I'm not part of the welcome committee here but it sounds like your wife is a keeper.

"So a mudbug mold to go with those jigs was the first addition."....

I almost mis-read this as an addiction, not an addition. However, you'll soon figure out that this plastic stuff is an addiction.

Its a great bunch here. A family actually. So welcome to the family.

Welcome, Carolina.  I usually shorten names, but Carol didn't seem to fit.  Tom's right on the family thing.  In fact, he's like the weird brother no one wants to talk about.

My wife's family is from Statesville, N.C.  We took a trip there in the early 80's and her cousin took me bass fishing with a couple of his buddies on Lake Norman.  My history was in fly fishing back then and I was a little intimidated when he gave me a bait caster to use.  My first cast went about 20 feet or so before the spool exploded into the biggest bird's nest ever made.  It rivaled the Gordian Knot.  Eyebrows from cousin Jeff and his two buddies went up and nobody would look me in the eye.  I think they were embarrassed by being seen with me.  I worked on that knot for about 10 minutes with my lure trailing behind the boat when KAABAAAMMM.  The reel was useless so I had to hand line the fish in...5# LMB.

"Yep, Guys", I told them.  "This is the way we do it in California."  That seemed to break the ice.  It was also the day's big fish.

Welcome to the forum.
Until next time.

Nice to meet you Denny , if you watched any of the BASS College National Championship it has been held on my home lake here of Chatuge (http://www.bassmaster.com/slideshow/college-championship-chatuge-day-one) the last two years . I live about as far west as you can go in N.C. .

Love the baitcast story , I have caught alot of big fish on crankbaits as it was setting on top of the water picking those messes out .

Welcome to the best hobby in the world. You won't believe the rush that you get when you catch the first fish on something you made.
May your days be filled with sun shine and you always have a tight line. AMEN
