VMC Spark Point Trebles
« on: 01/03/15 11:12 UTC »
I really like the Owner Cutting Point hooks... All but the price. Has anyone used these in 1X #7545 ?

Like and dislikes?

I have not tried the trebles; but they look GOOD.   #1x is a big treble.

I no longer use Trebles.  On anything.  Single Hooks Only, across the board, 100%.

Tired of the tangles that they make in general, or have you tangled with them personally?... (you know that I have.)

   #1x is a big treble.

1X is nothing to do with the hook size... It's 1X stronger... They have 3X and 4X as well.  As much as I like and use single hook baits, Many of them have a place for good treble hooks...

Nobody here has tried these yet? Really?  :o  I'm going to order them in bulk in size #4 and #6... Maybe some #2's too...

I used trebles most of my life, I just worked my way out of them in-favor of singles, through Trial and Error, mixed with Personal Preferences and experiences.  For the same weight, I can use an Owner SSW or Mosquito (or Mustad or Gamakatsu Octopus/Beak) and have WAY more gap/bite, plus not have the free hook-points that are common to trebles...combine that with all that hardware in mouth of a mad/scared head-shaking fighting critter that thinks I'm REALLY ugly.  Nah.  My hardbaits and spoons tote High Quality single hooks...all of them...I'm already a convert!

IMO, there's too many details (in my perspective) that lead me to this, and away from trebles.  Mr. Tom knows I'm dead-serious!

We all don't drive the same truck, boat, colors etc for good reason...  I have been fishing bass tournaments for over 30 years and made custom baits/molds for near the same... I too have tried single hooks for some of the reasons you mention. I still have a need/want for some good trebles.

That's the reason for this post...  ;D

What you said is definitely my preference with muskies, and most times with bass as well; however, I'm with 21xdc that there are a few baits (like spooks and traps) where I still run with "trouble" hooks.
Glad you didn't have to learn the hard way with one in the hand or head!

I cringe every time I see your avatar, fish.

I know I'm not the only one out there with that experince; and I know there are some others that have done their own medical work while out on the water.  Although I might be one of the few crazy enough to have pictures taken during the process, I'm betting there are other out there that have done the same.

Funny thing is I think my buddy in the front of the boat was in more pain watching me than I was actually working on it.  He offered to throw the towel in on the trip, but I just couldn't see traveling an hour to the nearest hospital only to have them do the same thing and charge me for it, plus miss a trip we travelled a couple hours to fish...
I may not have stayed at a Holiday Inn Express the previous night, but I was smart enough to figure this one out.   ::)
