1/8 poison tail
« on: 01/06/15 17:04 UTC »
Does everyone pour with the weed guard in on the 1/8 or is there a way to mod it for a base hole pin. I prefer to glue in the weed guards last (when possible). Thanks

I use the base pin and remove it when I powder paint it. Bake it at 400 for 1/2 hour then I take a 1/8 drill bit and clean the paint out. Then take super glue gell and put the weed guard in after I tie the skirt on. But that's how I do it. I think it's easier to glue the weed guard in after all is done.

I also prefer to glue my weed guards in so I made a "pin" by cutting the eye off of a large trailer hook and insert the shank where the weed guard would go... fits perfect with NO mold modifications.

Incidentally, the smallest poison tail jig (without weed guard) is also my weighted wacky-worm hook; most times I cut the collar area lead off to achieve 1/16oz.

If you can't find 5/64" tool steel rod go to Michaels or other craft store and look for the 5/64" dowel rod pieces, they sell them in a small blister pack. They will work for a bit, I have used them until I found the steel rod.  http://www.speedymetals.com/showproduct.aspx?productid=1838

I completely forgot about speedy metals, they have a branch maybe 15 minutes away. Thanks!

Will a "full" FG-12 weed guard fit in the 1/8 ounce poison tail weed guard hole?  Or do you need to remove strands?

No it doesn't. I was thinking it did then I went down and looked at the mold and it takes the smaller diameter weed guard. The 1/4 and 3/8 both take the 1/8 weed guard.

The 1/8 oz. Poison Tail cavity is designed for the FG-12 fibreguard and will accept it.  The FG-12 is 5/64" diameter by 1-3/8 length.

Not to be confused with the FG-30 guard which most cavities are designed for, the FG-30 is 1/8" diameter by 1-3/4 length.

Yea no kidding. When it comes to any bait under 1/4 oz I'm going to shut up from now on. I have no idea why anyone would what or need them for anything. In fact I believe in most states they should be outlawed and one should be hung from his toes till dead if caught with one. But that's just my opinion.
