2.5" MO Magic
« on: 01/12/15 15:29 UTC »
Finally picked up the 2.5" mold and got fire up the remelt machine to shoot a few today.  Didn't spend too much time out there as it's only 15 degrees!  But great easy to shoot mold, even cold.  No flash, complete fills all 3 times I shot it.  Once it warms up I'll actually get to play with it a little. :)

Very nice work.  You're gonna fall in love with that mold once you start fishing it a little bit.   ;)

That's next, DF.  Just too damn cold!  It'll be warmer later in the week,  I'll be shooting some tail colors to pair with the blackish color.  I'll be shooting tubes in the same colors and dipping them in black for bicolor tubes too.

Here you go DF, some bicolors.  I was going to do some black/pink, but I had a friend request white/pink at 1am this morning and I'll be seeing him tonight so I got those done first.  I still have plenty of pink and black, so I'll get them done eventually. :)

Not big on solid white and wanted to alter the pink a bit, I mixed my pink seen earlier with my firetail scrap to get a richer pink that I like more.  Mixed up a milky white, 2oz plastic w/ 2 drops white x2 and added some holo purple and purple .04 flake and just a touch of rose hilite to compliment the tail.

The blue and brown and blue and black was mainly working with some scrap just to try some things out.

Nick....dip a toothpick about 1/16" into plain red and stir that into the pink. You won't believe how that little shot of red will fire the pink up. And you can take it a step further by adding blue hi lite, not a bunch...maybe a bb sized ball of it to 4 ounces. Its a mind blower color in the sun.

There are bass color combos other than black and blue?  Whoa!  Jk.  That is my confidence color.  If anything, I'm stubborn and fish it too much.

Yep Tom, I use a little of the non-x2 Red NB and some x2 Floro orange to make a firetail and really fire up the pink.  I had 2 oz of that firetail left and 2 oz of the pink I played w/ earlier and blended them.  It pushed the firetail back to the pink side of things but it's still a richer and much nicer pink IMO.  This white is a knockout for me.  It's not the bright solid white I usually make, more to the effect of Mo Milk without the heavy hilite.  This lets the sparse glitter show up fairly well.  I thought about making some Mo Milk w/ rose hilite instead of violet, but wen this route instead and I'm quite pleased.  Might whip up a 2 oz batch of the milk to compare and see which I like better.

I'm w/ DF.  Black & blue is a proven combo but I rarely fish it.  Yet blue & silver is a confidence color in spinners and spoons for me.

Ordered the 2.5 Mo Magic and got it Saturday could not wait to try it out even though it was  7 degrees out  had to check it out. After first try baits did not fill up all the way about 1/4 of tail missing/not filled. Put some worm oil on tail section  2nd try was better only a 1/16 was missing.
Is mold to cold?   Maybe I'm clamping to hard?  Plastic not hot enough?   My  E.S senko mold works great, cant wait to try them out.

If I had to guess the mold is probably too cold if you're injecting in an unheated workshop and it is only 7 degrees out.  Otherwise I would say maybe lighten up the pressure on the molds a tad and see how that works.

Once it warms up give it another try.  Once in a great while I will get an incomplete fill on a few baits, but that's mostly various user error issues.  It was cold the first day I got mine.  I let it warm up to room temp in the house and then went out to shoot it and had complete fills.  I tend to shoot hot, but cooler seems to work fine.  Check your clamping if you still have issues, but I clamp molds pretty hard.
