the reel is just the basic Abu Garcia Revo S

The key is to just let the rod load up and act as a spring instead of actually forcing the bait out there. The blank is what makes the bait move like a heavier one and still be light.

LOL!  That's the same blank I've been building on...for quite awhile.  Mess with it some then I'll leave it be for awhile.  I have the last 4 (tip-most, smallest) guides and the Top left.  It's designated as my Light Bass rod if I'll get it done.  There's a Calcutta 200GTB with 12 lb. Red Label waiting on me to finish it.  FINE blank!  I'm using Alps Lite XN Polished Stainless guides.

You will love it!!! I put micro Minima guides on it and spiral wrapped it and that rod is a dream to fish with. It can handle anything that gets thrown at it.

Roger!  It definitely feels good, pressure distribution,  backbone, sensitivity.  Truly Quality.  I used Solid Graphite Arbors for the grips...fiberglass mesh tape over the arbors, epoxy over the mesh tape, X-flocked shrink tube last.  Only drawback is that the shrink tube can be cut by a rod-holder if I trolled that rod in a rod-holder...that'll be where I drew the line if I had rod-holders other than my hands...HAHAHA!  Sensitive as it gets!

It's definitely cool to build Your own, like many other things.  I think the most beneficial aspect of RodBuilding is the repair.  One of Your guides fail (extremely common), BAM, back in business.  Or You have a rod that is "That Favorite", it can be stripped and restored...better than it was when it was new.  A manual wrapper is all You need and can be had for a "small" investment.  The Burnishing Tool is Your best friend.  In the case that You only want to build Your own, Bro...ay...pay a Rod Man to do it.  It's cheaper and keeps Your time free...but that's just my $0.02...only You know Your World.  But, the repair aspect keeps popping up in my mind...and that piece is valuable to a Fisherman.  In due time, my Brudda.  There are store-bought rods to be had that are plenty Fine...my favorites are exactly that...and a man can fish with them same day!  Well, Ya know...for now...

Repairing old rods is a great way to get started. All you need is a wrapper, guides, finish, and thread. Wrappers can be homemade easy from wood or pvc and can also be cut from a cardboard box. New guides on an old rod will make a world of difference, especially on the older rods that still have shock rings in the guides.

Light Line Redfish.  My Wife's fish...had to put some pressure on it, it was headed straight for barnacle-covered Pilings.  Got it turned around...straight subdued.  A lot of Folks are using lighter line, better lines allow more of it.

I find myself leaning towards lighter lines and lures... I used to think that I needed a big lure and a baitcaster to catch bigger fish... That all changed when I began setting minnow traps to study some of the baitfish in the lakes that I fish... Most of the bait that I caught was about 2-2 1/2 inches.. I bought the 2.5 inch stinger wutz it mold and began fishing it on a light jig head and a drop shot... Needless to say my catch rate went up dramatically and I find that I still catch as many, if not more big fish... I also get more satisfaction playing a fish on six or eight pound mono versus winching one in with a baitcaster with 14 pound line

I mention making baits from Soft or Super Soft.  Some of my reasoning is action, but other reasoning is the details of the hook-set, even starting at the Reel/Main Line.  It's easier to get the Hooks Attributes exposed and functioning in/around/through Soft or Super Soft.

What will we use as Softener/Plasticizer if those Anti's in CA get their way?

I fished a branch of the Pearl River today.  Fished 2 Rods.  8' boat.

My Custom 7' 9" (was 7' 10" Mag Bass until I snapped-off an inch of the Tip).  Alps 316 LiteXN Polished Stainless guides, 8 + a Tip...Calcutta 200GTB loaded with 12 lb. fluorocarbon (Red Label).  Tomorrow, Fish for dinner...oh yes...
