El Gusano, 4.5"
« on: 02/08/15 21:10 UTC »
Here are a couple of the worms from this mold, both with chartreuse tails.

The purple bodied one is made of essential plastic, softened, 4 ounces. 5 drops of X2 Florida Grape and 2 drops of X2 Midnight Blue. Violet hi lites and purple .015 flake round the purple color out.

The chartreuse tails are a simple X2 chartreuse [8 drops] with a drop of X2 white to opaque it a little. 4ounces of plastic, stabilizer, uv, just a wee bit of blue hi lite.

The clear is firecracker with a pink core. 4 ounces of essential plastic, uv, stabilizer, .015 red. blue and silver flake in equal amounts to taste. The deep portion of the mold is hand poured, the pink X2 gets dotted on in two places along the length of the baits and the firecracker is then injected to finish the bait. Pretty basic core shot.

The El Gusano is a nice mold and shoots very easy. Trimming the tails for separate colors is a snap and they fit back in the mold without any fuss.

These and a few more colors will make up a new box for the walleye bucket. I plan to fish these on a jig, dead sticked. Their size is perfect for that application, yet they could easily be cast on a jig and retrieved. Of course they'll function as a drop-shot bait beautifully as well.

If I come up with any others that are neat I'll post pictures.

Very nice! I make a similar color with florida grape but I add drop of x2 blue instead of midnight blue.
I will also add a little blue hilight.
Great job.

Nice ctom, never thought I would see you shooting worms

I use a lot of worms actually but I chop them down to size. This 4.5" unit and that subtle paddle tail will look like lunch to our local walleyes and saugers. For years I have lopped and chopped to get plastics that fit my size preferences and gone walleye jigging.  I like plastics up to 5" for the walters and is one reason I am so fixed on the likes of this El Gusano worm, ring-its, thump-it series and the fry series baits.

We worked the shop in Red Wing today and the Mississippi River there has open banks and no ice right now. When we go back to work on Thursday I am taking a rod and a few jigs along with a box of plastics I have been dinking with over the last couple months. Supposed to be "relatively" warm yet so casting an hour is on the slate.

-8 degrees when we got to the shop. I did my bank run and then stopped down at my honey hole and made a bunch of token casts. The reel is thawing out as I type. lol Not much for a fish report other than that they still swim free. I actually had the line freeze to the finger of my glove when I was going to cast.
