First fish on self poured bait!
« on: 03/22/15 21:01 UTC »
Got to go out and finally test out my baits. 19 inch Smallmouth! Only one fish due to the fact that the normally 8ft+ of visibility was more like 8 inches but I did it! I caught my fist fish on a hand poured bait! It was the MD 3XL in that motor oil color on the back of a jig my friend poured and tied. Bait, rod, and jig were all handmade. I think that is as good as it gets.

Good goin' b.  You can't beat catching a fish on something you made.  It'll be the first of many.
Until next time.

A 19 inch smallmouth is a nice fish. Good job. I'm always afraid when I go the first time with a new rod, boat or like this baits you made and I'll catch something other then a bass. It gives it bad karma. You sure cured that problem with that fish.
The boat I fish out of now the first time I ever turned the key was the spring of 2010 on Guntersville Lake. We plowed slowly across the lake ( new motor ) and smoked them with over 60 bass that day. It has been the best boat I have ever owned. Where as my buddy bought his new boat in 2008 and on our first day out with it we caught one shad that he snagged and wouldn't come off no matter how hard he smacked it on the water. That boat a few years later ended up sinking to the bottom of the Gulf of Mexico. True story. Karma means everything.

Thanks guys! Guess I should also mention it was the first time I had taken out my boat since I rewired it, replaced the floor, and carpeted it. Kind of a homemade slam

What, you didn't rebuild the motor too while you were at it ? Kidding. LOL  I bought a new War Eagle 648LDV a couple years ago. I wired it myself and went with Neo Matting to cover the aluminum floor. As you know, it's a time consuming job but a good job to have behind you once it's done.

I get to take some of the plastics I made for a swim for the first time tomorrow. Can't wait.
