Section on "Hand Pour"...open molds

Jason,

Since you are getting a good collection of open pour molds...how about a section on the forum on it?

I am really (really!!!) bad at hand pour and I sure would like to get some help and read how others make such great baits.

I know it is something I know I need to learn how to do better.

The section "Soft Plastic Baits" is the area dedicated to "How To" with soft plastic (injection or hand pour).

I am not an expert at hand pouring so I feel I'm qualified to say the mold has a huge impact on your finished baits when you first start out.  Small appendages - forget about it.  There are some on here that can knock the little stuff out no problem.  I stick to the bigger stuff.  The Stump Thumper, Flippin Stick, new Freedom Frys, they are really easy to learn on and make good productive baits.

You can also practice with the molds you have.  Pour half and inject half.  Just pick a bait that doesn't have a lot of small appendages.   :-\

Andy:

I will get some tips together and get a post up for things that make a difference to me. I am sure others can add good info as well.

I'll be keeping my eyes open for the "Tricks of the OP Trade".  'Bout to grab a few OP's and, with my "former" experience of Hand Pouring, I REALLY need to get it down, so I can keep the little bit of hair I have left on my head.

I like that 6" Flip'n Stick!

I have 2 of the 6" Flippin Stik open pour and it is GREAT! It's a big bait...so there is plenty of room to pour! Jason also did an excellent job in the junction between the tail and the body..so it's pretty easy to pour a tail one color...and the body another.

I am absolutely Hand Pour Challenged (HPC)...and even I am getting very good looking baits from this mold.

Thank You, Andy!!!
I liked all the details of it...the fact it's fairly "heavy bodied", and how Jason cuts the transition from Body to Tail, AND the Raised Sections (what are those called?)...hopefully it'll Swim Nice 'n Puurdy!  I'm definitely looking forward to getting some STANK Plastic in the water!  C'mon Wednesday!
