What direction is the wind coming from? Water temps control everything out there.

Wind was blowing into the light house and water was 52.7 degrees fished from 45' and in. My first time down there on open water and once on the ice.

I tried to go for a swim the other night.  Put one foot in the water and decided that was a bad idea, 52.7 degrees sounds about right.  Seems really cold for this time of year.

Beautiful shot from the main gap.  The water got so cold that the bait disappeared....No bait no fish.  The spawning Kings will be in soon and warm water wont be a barrier, but it's slow right now.  I never thought I'd say this in August, but the water got too cold.  I was taking temp readings and it was 45 degrees at the lake Express and Vets park.  Massive up-welling of cold water.

Up on Superior a good east or northeast blow will dredge up some chilly water in a hurry. Its amazing just how fast the bait and fish respond to that. On the breakwater in Two Harbors the inside of the harbor will hold fish for a couple days after a bad blow happens unless a solid south wind comes along real quick and shoves that cold water back inside. We should see some shoreline salmon in Two Harbors pretty quick but all of the ones we see are the immature fish in schools from the Wisconsin coast. Cohos should be coming back into the area too.

I think the worst part of seeing that cold water getting sucked up is having 90 degrees in the parking lot and 52 degrees out on the water after dressing in shorts because its so "hot".....nothing like getting out there only to have your berries rattling jingle bells.
