Rainy day in Texas!!!
« on: 11/08/11 15:57 UTC »
I think we got more rain today than we've had all year!!!  It was awesome to see it rain a real rain again.

On a different note, I have to thank Andy for the Bowfin story the other day.  I've been chuckling to myself every time I think of  him telling us about the Bowfin sticking it's head through the ice and freaking everyone out.  I may have a twisted since of humor, but I can just see it so clearly I have to laugh.

I was telling the story yesterday to another ice fisherman, and he told me about a time he was in a tent with his dad and a muskrat popped up.  It hung out with them for several minutes before it figured out it wasn't alone and made a hasty departure.

I guess nothing really crazy has happened to me on the water, unless bending props, loosing glasses or blackberries, coats, contacts, falling in, etc. counts.

Any other wild fish stories???

OK I just have to tell this one-
A few years ago wife and I were BBQing at a friend's place getting ready to go smallie fishing on the Umpqua River here in Oregon and this goose just showed up out of the blue.  We were all sitting in kind of a circle munching on hot dogs and getting ready to jump in the boat and go fishing.  This goose waddled right in to the middle of us all and fell asleep while we were talking!  It cracked us up and we swore it almost sounded like he was snoring!
An hour or so went by and the goose disappeared.  We jumped in the boat and took off up river and as soon as we hit full throttle that goose came flying in from who knows where.  We stopped because he was flying literally a foot from the boat and we didn't want to hit him.  As soon as we got stopped he jumped in the boat and immediately went up under the bow.  He turned around a few times like a dog would and fell asleep again!  We didn't really know what to think of it other than laughing like crazy, so we continued on with the day and caught a ton of smallmouth!  (we obviously had a good luck charm)
Eventually the goose climbed out and flew back into the water and went his way.  At the end of the day as soon as we fired up the boat- wouldn't you know it- here came this goose flying like the wind to catch us again, and he got back in.  He rode with us a few miles back to the house and when we got out, he got out.  He disappeared and when we came back the next day to fish, he was right back there at the dock.  We saw quite a bit of Mr. Goose for a couple years, then over the course of the last year my buddy says he has not seen him come around.
Well, it's getting cold which means it is almost salmon time up there so I have a feeling once we get out on the water we may see our old fishing buddy again. (plus the "we might see Mr Goose" is almost enough to get my wife to bundle up and go searching for Chinook with me)
