twisted eye wire shafts
« on: 09/03/15 17:44 UTC »
Hey guys got a question.  What tool would you use to make the twisted eye on these. http://store.do-itmolds.com/Twisted-Eye-Wire-Shafts_p_738.html I have an idea for a bait I want to make but I need lighter wire than what the pre made ones come in. I want to make them out of .012 stainless steel wire do-it sells.  Thanks for the help!

Ok cool where do I get them in the .012" size?  The smallest i could find on do-it was .024.

I've never seen them that size for sale.   You'd have to make them yourself I would guess?   Or I've heard some guys get custom wires from Mustang Wire.

Mike, if that's all you want to do, most all your benders will make an eye on a straight wire shaft. My first was a Jann's bender for 20 bucks or something. Made a lot of in lines with it and did those fine....both ends. As I progressed in tacklecrafting, gave it to a buddy and ordered a Hagens. Just depends on what you want to do now and would like to do in the future. My .02

I'm another that's never seen them that size, Mustang wire doesn't carry that size in their catalouge so it would be a special order and not cheap.  I use an old Netcraft wire former, but I don't know any place that carries a .012 wire

I use a round nose pliers.

That would be my recommendation... so handy, so versatile, I can't imagine being without them!

Thanks I have made a couple with just the pliers just have a hard time getting a tight close wrap with them.  I havn't made up my mind what to get yet because I know I want to make the eye pretty small and most of the tools make them bigger than I want.  Might have to get one that works and mod it to make exactly what I want.

Might as well build your own.  Modding a Twistech is possible but it's not easy.

I recommend a set of lineman pliers (because of the flat jaws) in conjunction with the round nose pliers...  I can make some pretty tight wraps this way.  I would think .012 would be an absolute cinch as I don't go smaller than .031 for my smallest spinners.
