The winds of November....
« on: 11/11/15 12:37 UTC »
Well buds in Denver, Iowa, have you blown off the footings yet? The noon news here sounded like you guys could be playing a major role in the Wizard of Oz, the re-make along with some sodden weather tossed in to make life drippy. We're due for over an inch of rain but wind is going to be our big thing especially tonight and tomorrow morning. I don't know how it can blow much harder here....the leaves are going horizontal to the ground right now. But its still dry.

You guys take care down there. Tornados are a possibility I have heard, so if the rook starts rattlin......

It's the calm before the storm right now!  Sounds like we will experience quite the wind this afternoon and tonight.  A guy should really be out chasing fish right now before this front moves in.

I read a story this morning about the 1940 Armistice Day Blizzard that killed all the duck hunters on the river up your way.  What a story.  I think I can deal with the wind and rain this afternoon after reading about that disaster.

That storm and the Edmund Fitzgerald. Its hard to imagine what that blizzard must have been like. I left about ten minutes ago to scale my deer hunting mountain thinking that deer should be moving big time ahead of this sucker but I ran smack into drizzle so I came back home. I'll head out tomorrow when the heavy duty stuff is done. Rain and black powder are bad company.

After reading the wind advisories and knowing it's mid November, I put the tarp on the boat and put it away for the season. Probably start getting the ice fishing equipment ready this weekend.

Live just west of Dsm,Iowa had sirens blasting for few 30+min storm chasers had some rotation spotted but don't think anything "touched" Down.

All had here was hail, strong winds, and a lot rain. Least boat is at dealer in northern Iowa possible headed back to ol factory.  Be a long winter to mess with new jig ideas and paint lures I guess!

Stay safe

Man, did we get hit with wind yesterday in the afternoon.  Weds was supposed to be a crap day with heavy rain and wind according to every weather outlet around and we had a bit of a breeze but never saw rain until after dark....so based on the dire predictions I stayed home all day and out of the woods. Overnight Weds into Thursday we saw over 2" of rain and some wind but not bad, so at noon I saddled up and headed to the hill to hunt. 1:35 pm. That was the magic time.....when super sonic winds made landfall up there. I have no idea how hard it was blowing steadily but the gusts were something else. Around 3, after I'd seen several large limbs blow out of oaks larger than the one my stand is in and after witnessing the wind fell yet another huge old cottonwood, I opted for terra firma after that cottonwood went down.

Its not like I didn't see deer either. Except that they were all flying along at about 60mph. I've never seen such skittish deer inside a woods.

Today I am putting lotion on my wind burn and going to do some shopping with Ma. Tomorrow we'll have more people in the woods and the plan is to hit the hill at 4:40 in the morning and stay until dark or until I have to gut something. The big problem we have had this year is nobody in the woods helping to move deer. They'll be out tomorrow since most will opt for football on Sunday and I seriously think I may go fishing Sunday.

Been a wild deer season for me. Seen the deer but nothing in range and then this goofy weather.
