Here is a picture of a chatterbait I just did for a friend. It is a 1/2oz model with a 5/0 Eagle Claw 2706BP hook with a turbo blade attached via split ring. I have used an Arky head and attached the blade direct to the hook by opening the hook up using a punch but I like the split ring better because the bait really hunts and vibrates super hard, the downside is there is a little less noise from the blade hitting the head but it still has some of that just not as much. The mold that I really like for this is the Trokar pro swim jig, it makes an awesome heavy cover swim jig too but the chatterbaits are really good.

Yeah, they do mean business.  You could test them, but even if you win, you lose.  The Chatterbait is a good lure and in the long run it might be a good idea to just buy it.
Until next time.

I'm just looking to make bladed jigs for myself. Chatterbaits are good but want to build baits with the colors that i like to use. Not looking to copy a chatterbait made by zman.

No body is going to slap a lawsuit on you for making your own baits. You can copy it part for part. Now you mass produce it and market it head to head with them your going to get a letter. But your going to get a letter first not a lawsuit.
It reminds me of when I was a kid. We use to sneak back to a farm pond at night and cast jitterbugs alone the cattails. We caught so many big bass and we would let them all go. Every once in a while the farmer would see we were out there and stand at his back step and yell out at us. And we would run and come back in a few days. All he did was yell. He never called the law or our parents. That's all these guys are doing. That's why they put it on Wired 2 Fish. They'll jump on the big guys but they're just going to yell at us. They don't like us making baits. They what us to buy their over priced baits. But Z man makes a lot of his own baits. Kind of the pot calling the kettle black isn't it ?

What Lamar said was true, but remember, if you use the rounded blade that is sold by lure making supply stores and attach it via split ring, you have nothing to worry about. The patents deal with the shape of the blade and the way it is attached directly to the head, that is why everyone stopped selling the shake heads with the open line tie to attach a blade to it, because that method is a patent violation. I personally like the split ring, the down side is I lose a little of the noise since the blade doesn't hit the head much but that is about it. The up side is the hunting or searching action I get, my baits run left then right then up and down and they made not be loud but the vibration is incredible and that vibration combined with the erratic action make them a killer, and I believe better, than an original chatterbait.
