Oil for jig head molds

What type of oil is recommended for the jig head molds?

I don't think oil and hot lead will end well.
What are you wanting to achieve with oil ?

I use mineral oil for jig mold hinges  and to oil the inside of injecters. They are 10 years old and still shoot like new a bottle of oil is inexpensive and lasts a long time.

For Lead Mold Hinges, any good oil You have on-hand will do...You can save "scraps" from Oil Changes (what's left in the bottles of new oil) and use that for Hinges...or anything else You have that's slick.

Injectors and Tube Inserts, try Worm Oil, Scent Oil, or other Natural Oils that You don't mind on Your plastics.  I use Almond Oil here, because it's what I had on-hand when I needed to utilize something.  No Petro smell.  Light.  Cheap.  Readily-available...somewhat.  You can use Cooking Oil here, just watch for Gumming...over time most Natural Oils will Gum.

Reel oil works best on hinges. But I use worm oil if it's handy

I use 3 in 1 oil.
It's inexpensive and readily available plus it dispenses nicely.
I haven't had any negative issues with it.

Maybe someone can provide some additional info but I swear I read on an insert in a new do it jig mold I bought that a certain weight oil should be used to oil the hinges.

Used to use a tiny bit of 3 in 1 but now use Rem Oil, a little bit goes a long way.

Good call Fish. Just opened a brand new jig mold and, when all else fails read the instructions.
"Oil hinges before each casting 20W or 30W oil works well"

Thanks!  I can now stop searching the internet and quit trying to find that insert in my cluttered, rat hole of garage. I put some oil in an empty fly tying head cement bottle with a needle tip. Works perfectly.
