Thinking about starting
« on: 05/24/17 18:08 UTC »
I am thinking about getting started.  That said I have been reading about some of the proposed restrictions on lead.  That said I am curious if Do-It will be offering tungsten or if that is a realistic goal.  Just one of those just in case scenarios.  Even if the (laws?) don't get passed I would still like to go this route

Welcome to the Do-It forums Kuffdaddy.

Tungsten is a tough one in a poured mold so I'd say that its a no go. Tin and lead and another couple heavy metals are doable  though so step right into it. There's nothing like catching fish on tackle you make yourself.

Again, welcome aboard.

The Melting Point of Tungsten is too high for someone pouring at home, unless You have a lot of money to play with.

And by a lot he means !!A LOT!!  Seriously though I wouldn't worry much about a ban on lead.  It's not to expensive to get into lead pouring and for me anyway it didn't take long at all the be saving $ on jigs ( can't say that for plastic lol ) so your not out much if it ever does happen. Also as Tom pointed out there are a few other options.
Come on over to the custom side!

Welcome !!! Unless you live we're they have a no lead law I wouldn't worry about it and you live in such a state you can use tin witch is lighter or bismuth but you need a mold release agent and work realitivily fast (safely) because it expands when it cools. And like what has been said before there is a extreme amount of satisfaction that you get the first time you catch a fish on something that you made.
